Munchie's Breakdown: WWE NXT 1/21/15
Return of the breakdown is upon us! Today I will discuss the happens on the latest episode of NXT because after watch I seriously considered doing this so here you guys go.
Sami Zayn vs Tye Dillinger
This match didn't happen because Sami Zayn came in and absolutely destroyed Dillinger than proceeded to demand that Kevin Owens would come out. I personally enjoyed it because Sami Zayn showed some aggression that I have never seen from him, even as El Generico. Regal came out and told Sami that he will take on Owens at Takeover after Regal came to talk some sense into Sami with Sami begging for the match.
Segment Rating: 5/5( Not because it's the greatest ever because it's not, it showed some emotion, character development, and crowd reaction. Needless to say it was very spot on, plus we're getting a blockbuster of a match at NXT Takeover so no complaints here!)
Side note: Tye Dillinger....guy gets signed back when WWE still had OVW as a developmental territory, gets promoted to the main roster, gets cut, gets resigned and yet this guy is still treated as the resident jobber in developmental lol.
Kevin Owens Backstage Segment
Generic announcer guy asks Owens about his thoughts on the contract signing and about his recent actions. Owens tells him that he will look forward to telling Sami why he did what he did to his face next week.
Segment Rating: 2/5 (It was ok but short and to the point, I got a chuckle during the part where Owens asks generic announcer if he works there because I literally asked the same thing)
Finn Balor vs Curtis Axel
Solid first round match up between these two, I don't see how Axel is going to bounce back on the main roster yet but here he performed very smoothly like his father did, would've been better without the returning "Shaaa" chants. "Bad Reputation" randomly played during the match, I thought it was a commercial but apparently it was played during the match, I think it was from the crowd.Weird...but Balor ended up winning with the top rope double foot stomp to advance. Nice match.
Match Rating: 7/10 (Solid match, one of Curtis Axel's better performances since the middle of his Intercontinental Title run. Balor continues to impress with his progress)
Devin Taylor interviews Sasha Banks
Devin asks for Sasha's thoughts on her upcoming match, Sasha cuts Devin off and talks about her victory over the champion last week. She then proceeds to talk about how she would do the same later on and become the new NXT Women's Champion.
Segment Rating: 3/5 (Short and straight to the point, I felt Sasha's sassy attitude in this promo was kinda overdone but at least she is showing some attitude and proper execution in this segment that some of the main roster divas fail to show in their interviews. Whoops)
Bull Dempsey Segment
Bull talked about how he felt his big opportunity to go to the top slip away after failing to defeat Baron Corbin, he talks about getting his redemption next week in the tournament match. The ending kinda sounded babyface like after he talked about the crowd chanting "Bull".
Segment Rating: 3/5 (Short and sweet, Bull came across really well and sounded a tad old school during the promo which is a positive because it didn't sound like it was off a paper. It sounded babyface rather than heel rookie monster like though)
NXT Women's Championship Match: Charlotte(c) vs Sasha Banks
They kick off the match throwing down on the mat with the champion in control, it then turns into a brawl that ended up outside. Becky when to attack the champ but takes a clothesline for her trouble, the two goes back in and the champion hits some nice basic offense but Becky Lynch attacks the champion and the ref took 10 seconds before calling for the bell, both members of Team Bae gangs up on the champion until.....Bayley to the rescue. Bayley takes the title and stares passionately at it and Charlotte takes her belt back but then eats a sloppy Belly to Belly suplex from Bayley. Regal comes out and makes a Fatal 4 Way for Takeover with all 4 women involved, Team Bae raises their hands individually but pulls down the hand of the other showing some dissension in the team already.
Rating(Match gets a 5/10 for ending quickly via DQ, the segment gets 4/5 and was well executed, obviously Bayley is the Sami Zayn of the Women's division and showed some aggression herself onto Charlotte even though it didn't connect the best of ways, also great job on kicking off the dissension of Team Bae)
The Vaudevillians vs Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake
Solid tag team bout, I continue to be blown away by both Blake and Murphy, they deserve much more recognition than they get. Sucks because the topic of dissension amongst the Vaudevillians was brought up on commentary and Gotch continuing the in ring mishaps, meaning they might split which is a negative on all levels.
Match Rating: 7/10 (Good match, Blake and Murphy are so strong and athletic which is not really a common trait within the WWE. Hope the Vaudevillians don't split, we need more teams around and someone most likely Gotch's career will fall into obscurity.)
Tyler Breeze Message
Tyler Breeze basically talks about winning the tournament and NXT Title then going off to cleanse the world of ugly people....basically Beautiful People motto.
Segment Rating: 2/5
Blake & Murphy Interview
Generic announcer catches up with the joyful team after winning against the Vaudevillians and ask them to give their thoughts in what many people might consider an upset victory. Blake and Murphy said it was no upset and that they are ready to climb to the top of the mountain. The team issues a challenge to the Lucha Dragons which was later confirmed to be accepted.
Segment Rating: 3/5(Good segment, this might be the send off of the Luchas and the push of Murphy and Blake so nothing but positive vibes.)
Hideo Itami vs Tyler Breeze
Great match! Itami was able to land a great deal of his world renowned offense including the Fisherman Buster. Breeze did extremely well with some very unique and innovative offense. Super model kick was great and done ONCE as an attempt to end the match unlike some popular indy talents.... GTS chants are erupting at Full Sail week after week, I think maybe it should happen soon WWE....just saying. Itami hits the KENTA Rush followed by the Running Jump Kick in placement of his Busaiku Knee Kick for the win.
Match Rating: 7.5/10 (Easily match of the night and candidate for match of the week. Strong showing from both men. They're building hints for that guy who got signed over The American Wolves and Joey Ryan, he hasn't competed at live events either. Could he really be that impressive?)
Superstar of the Night: Hideo Itami
Diva of the Night: Bayley
Overall Star of the Night: Sami Zayn
Match of the Night: Hideo Itami vs Tyler Breeze
Deceased Wrestler of the Night: Chris Candido(Cause of death was a Blood Clot after complications with his surgery) R.I.P :'(
